Participation in the program exposes students and their families to valuable lessons that will support their remaining college careers Students who choose college while in high school make considerable progress toward their college education if the appropriate time and focus are given to their studies. This experience helps to ease the transition from high school to college and provides academic enrichment to students who are ready for the challenge of college coursework. They experience the process of enrolling in college classes and the costs associated with college tuition, fees, and textbooks. Students who choose the Early College program learn first-hand the demands of going to college. Highland Community College Western Center in Baileyville, KS is here to serve. Seniors, juniors, and sophomores may be eligible to take the classes, as well as certain freshmen with approval from their high school principal. Taking college classes while still in the high school setting is a great opportunity for high school students to get a head start on the college experience. She will be responsible for helping to create this new facility which will deliver technical education opportunities on the western side of the Highland service area. Classes are transferable to most colleges in Kansas. Highland Community College has announced that Cara Baker has been hired as the Highland Western Center Coordinator. It provides educational leadership to help each individual become a well-informed. The college also exists to serve each student. Faculty are evaluated and must meet KBOR criteria for teaching college classes. Highland Community College, the first college in Kansas, provides lifelong learning opportunities and contributes to economic development to enhance the quality of life in the communities we serve. Courses are evaluated by the assistant dean of instruction before being implemented at the high school. HCC classes taught in high school have identical content to courses offered on campus, online, and at the college's regional sites. Students have the advantage of taking their college classes right at the high school during the day. This position assists students to be successful through advising, study/test-taking skills. Concurrent and dual credit courses give students an expanded curriculum by scheduling HCC courses in conjunction with their regular class offerings. The HCC Western Center in Baileyville is seeking a Student Services Representative. Highland Community College's Early College Program provides high school students an opportunity to get a head start on their college education. These scholarships are awarded to current HCC students based on student academic achievement, involvement in activities, and being an HCC legacy.The Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) encourages high school students to take advantage of postsecondary education opportunities by enrolling in college courses while still in high school. Scholarship recipients must write a Thank You Letter and have their photo taken before funds will be released to the student's account. Students must enroll full-time and make satisfactory academic progress. The Highland Community College Foundation provides over $60,000 of scholarships to support a variety of majors and technical programs. Students must enroll in at least six credit hours at a Regional Center to qualify: Technical Center, Perry Center, Wamego Center, Western Center HCC Western Center faculty, staff, and students are invited to support this cause by wearing red and/or pink on Monday, Feb. Tech Center Students who are Doniphan County residents attending full-time at the Tech Center in Atchison or part-time at the Tech Center and part-time on the Highland campus may be eligible for a book and tuition scholarship.Ĭhosen students will receive a scholarship covering tuition and book rental for six credit hours per semester. Scholarships are not valid for online classes, whether or not a student is living on campus.Īthletic Scholarships pay for books and tuition andare renewable each semester provided the student-athlete meets all GPA and participation requirements set forth by the Kansas Junior College Athletic Association, HCC, and the coach. Students attending the technical center and living with parents/guardians in Doniphan County are also eligible for institutional awards.
