I thought I would put together a list for those of you who might be interested in dairy-free options, including a detailed comparison of the most popular brands so that you can see the difference between the price, ingredients and nutrition, plus an evaluation of the flavor and texture.* With that said I’ve been able to find a few that I personally love, but I know that taste is ultimately subjective. Just as it took thousands of years for our dairy techniques to evolve I believe it’s only a matter of time before the plant-based options are just as good, if not better. Over time more high quality options have continued to emerge with better taste. Most of them have a long list of stabilizers and are loaded with sugar to mask the flavor. And it was not an easy one. Finding a plant-based yogurt with a clean ingredient list and minimal added sugars proved to be quite the challenge. When I made the decision to give up dairy (for both health and ethical reasons) replacing my morning yogurt was the first task. From topping it with my favorite seasonal fruits and granola to blending it in my smoothies, I’ve always relied on it to start the day with a healthy dose of probiotics. Yogurt has been a staple in my diet for as long as I can remember.
